When it comes to diagnosing illnesses and injuries in our animal companions, not everything that your pet may be suffering from can be easily detected on the surface of the skin. To achieve a quick and accurate diagnosis, we must delve deeper and examine your pet from the inside. We employ the use of advanced diagnostic imaging to help us learn precisely what’s happening inside your pet’s body so that we can quickly diagnose the problem and develop an appropriate treatment protocol as soon as possible.

DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING

Digital Radiology

Radiographs (x-rays) are extremely helpful for diagnosing and monitoring many medical and surgical conditions. At our clinic, we provide our patients with the most current innovation in X-ray technology: digital radiographs. With digital radiology, we are able to view high-quality images that help us accurately diagnose your pet’s condition. Thanks to this sophisticated technology, digital x-rays are available within seconds while exposing patients to much less radiation compared to traditional film x-rays.

Video Otoscopy

Video Otoscopy is utilized to examine, diagnose, and treat ear problems. The video otoscope projects video onto a large computer screen, capturing images from the external ear canal and tympanic membrane (eardrum). Ear problems are extremely common in pets. There are a variety of causes, including food allergy, seasonal allergy, and parasites. Secondary bacterial and yeast infections increase the severity of symptoms. The video otoscope allows effective cleaning of the deep ear canal. Medication can be infused into the middle and inner ear if needed.

ECG and Blood Pressure Monitoring

Just like in humans animals can get high and low blood pressure and just like in humans this can have a negative effect on your pet's health. Blood pressure monitors are used to monitor patients prone to hypertension brought about by chronic conditions such as hyperthyroidism or renal failure. Blood pressure is also monitored in anaesthetised patients undergoing even minor procedures. Monitoring blood pressure during surgery enables the surgical team to take appropriate action should the patient's blood pressure change. This intervention can significantly improve the outcome of the surgery.

We also use ECG during every surgery we perform. An ECG will detect arrhythmias which can be caused by anaesthesia or heart disease, and when present can be potentially fatal if left untreated.
